Our story begins in 2005 when craftsmen associated with a local non-profit had the idea to share their woodworking skills with the students at Narrow Gate Lodge. What began as woodworkers and woodturners teaching basic woodworking skills like building cutting boards and turning pens and bowls has grown into a multi-million dollar business that provides real wood accents to builders and renovators turning houses into homes.
Our woodworking business started in Franklin, TN in 2014 and our focus was on home-products like cutting boards, wooden keepsake boxes and the sort. These were our humble beginnings.
One day a local builder approached our craftsmen with a box beam problem: the seams of site-built beams often separate. We created a solution: a lock miter joint that creates the look of a solid timber and will never open.
What began as a great design grew into a popular product line. Our beams were featured on HGTV’s Property Brothers and we started shipping them across the US and Canada. Since then, we’ve added mantels, columns, corbels & brackets, floating shelves, lintels, cased openings, header wraps and ceiling packages to complete the look.
As we expanded our market and product offerings, we expanded beyond our original name, TN Box Beams. We became Narrow Gate Woodworks, which gives a nod to our craftsmanship roots and fits our expanded offerings.
Proceeds of our profits go to Narrow Gate Lodge which has helped hundreds of young men Discover a Life that Matters and uses craftsmanship as a metaphor for life transformation.
